What is Actos?
Actos is a thiazolidinedione antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is generally used with other medications such as insulin, sulfonylurea, or metformin to help control blood sugar levels. Actos makes the body more sensitive to insulin, thus lowering the body's blood sugar level. It is generally ineffective as a treatment for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and can be potentially harmful.
Actos is also being used experimentally to treat non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a liver disorder that is caused by a resistance to insulin.
